Boulder Bay on Lake Tahoe in the state of Nevada is currently in development. The goal of the developers is to try to keep as many cars off the road as possible.
To that end, they submited a plan to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency which “takes a four-pronged approach to reducing the project’s transportation footprint.”
The four items include:
1) Getting people to the lake without a car;
2) Increasing shuttle service once visitors arrive;
3) Finding alternatives to trolleys or shuttles for visitors; and
4) Encouraging employees to use alternative transportation.
One of the many ideas the developers are planning is to have an electric bicycle rental program. Indeed, the electric bicycle rental idea will be tested at the Tahoe Biltmore this summer.
The total cost of the program for Boulder Bay (not just for the e-bike portion!) is estimated at $318,000 for annual ongoing subsidies.
The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is reviewing the program as part of Boulder Bay’s Environmental Impact Study, Spokesman Jeff Cowen said.
