The Seat of the Problem Solved!

The Seat of the Problem Solved!

stylyx

Anyone who has ridden a bike for any length of time does not need to be told that occassionally a sore derriere can be a problem!

The company Stylyx has introduced its new range of road bikes with a uniquely shaped seat and upright riding position.

Stylyx Managing Director, Peter Clutton: “The final solution involved developing new patented design technology for the bike frame and applying a ‘seat integrated’ approach to each bike’s design, where a specific seat shape is integrated with frame geometry and rider-positioning from the very outset of the design process.”

The bike seat is designed to remove the pressure and chafing of the inner thighs whilst providing an unhindered leg action to make full use of pedaling power.

“The seat provides correct anatomical support through the buttocks (with no body contact at the riders central crotch area) and removes the lower back strain brought on by “pelvic float” (lateral movement when pedaling),” said Stylyx.

The frame design and riding position

The frame design positions the rider in an upright position, with the rider’s bodyweight directly over the seat, eliminating the “bent spine” riding position and correspondingly reducing the risk of back pain or injury. This positioning, combined with the correct support from the bike seat, is designed to produce a much healthier riding position.

The patented “Personal Positioning System” (PPS), allows every rider to adjust the riding position to suit personal differences in leg length, arm length, and body length and achieve the ideal riding position for his/her physique.

eBike Bike Lights

eBike Bike Lights

ebike-lights1

These waterproof lights can be used with virtually any ebike setup. Unlike other systems, which require either an auxilliary 6V or 12V battery or a separate DC-DC converter, these units connect directly to the main ebike pack. Highlights include:

  • Efficient and Bright The lights provide significant illumination and visibility with minimal power draw.
  • Variable input voltage All of these lights are designed with an integrated DC-DC converter so that they can be plugged into any ebike battery pack, from 24V setups up to 72V or higher.
  • Robust Construction The light housing is a single block of epoxy, rather than thin shells of die-cast plastic.
  • Waterproof These lights are fully submersible. Prolonged water exposure means…nothig to fear.
  • Made in Canada These lights are both designed and manufactured by us here in Vancouver, Canada.

Mounting

The moulded LED lights are designed so that they can be readily secured to the bike tubing with a pair of zip ties. The front light sits on top of the handlebar. The rear light is secured either to the seat post or rear rack.

Wiring the Power

These bike lights need to tap into your electric bicycle battery pack for power. A small amount of custom wiring is required to hook the light into the system. Instructions for a variety of methods will come with the lights.

Wiring Switches

The regular front and rear lights do not have a built in on/off control button, so you will want to wire up a switch in series with the power going to these lights, or terminate the leads with a connector that is easy to plug in and unplug. Again, this would be customized wiring.

Power from the Wheel

If you have a direct drive hub motor (Crystalyte, Nine Continent, Wilderness Energy etc.) the hub motor itself can act as a generator and power the lights up so that you aren’t riding in the dark.

Heavy Duty Electric Bike Towbar Rack

Heavy Duty Electric Bike Towbar Rack

Thule EuroPower 916

The Swedish company Thule has designed the Thule EuroPower 916 carrier to take the weight of two electric bikes.

It is their latest rear mount system, and can carry a maximum load of 60kgs. This means that it can carry quite a bit of weight — something most racks aren’t capable of doing.

There’s a foot-operated tilt mechanism, allowing the user to access to the boot of their car (that’d be the trunk, to our American audience!), and has detachable bike arms for easy loading.

The loading ramp is an optional accessory. For the older cyclist, it will ease the chore of wheeling the bikes on or off the rack.

Stnadard with the rack is the ability to lock the rack to the car and the bikes to the rack. Also, there is the one-hand fitting of the rack onto the towbar.

The Thule EuroPower 916 is expected to be available for purchase in March 2009.
