Electric Vehicles Won’t End Climate Change

The title of the op-ed piece I link to below is actually, “Electric Vehicles Will End Climate Change,” but frankly, that’s not really true. Ask yourself this question. Where does electricity come from? And where do the currently highly-toxic ebike batteries go when their effective life is done?

The e-revolution is good for a lot of reasons, but it is expecting too much to believe that an army of ebike riders will live in a pollution-free environment.

Here’s the first two paragraph of the op-ed piece by Escurel Occeno:

From the early articles about the conference in Copenhagen on Climate Change, I read that the main focus was to market electric cars because with the explosion of China, India, and even Brazil now developing an automobile industry of more than 2 billion consumers wanting self-owned automobiles so imagine in just 5 years if theworking class in those three countries bought regular gasoline or diesel engines for their private use to go to work every day or shopping on weekends.

Introduction of unleaded gasoline (In the United States from January 1, 1996; the Clean Air Act banned the sale of leaded fuel for use in on-road vehicles) and the catalytic converter–a device used to reduce the toxicity of emissions from an internal combustion engine reduced air pollution, but according to the conference it is not enough to prevent Global Warming destruction.

“Ask yourself this question. Where does electricity come from?”

I think you need to do some research in this area. Not all places in the world use coal to generate electricity. Even if they do, it still produces less CO2 emissions than an equivalent gasoline powered vehicle. Your also assuming that power generation will not become more renewable.

“And where do the currently highly-toxic ebike batteries go when their effective life is done?”

I’m not sure what this has to do with climate change but why can’t they be recycled like lead car batteries and cell phone batteries.

I 100% agree with peter up there, this post has more bullet holes then an Escalade in the ghetto. I sell sealed lead acid 36v 12AH batteries and i did my research before going into such a business, but they are literally 100% recyclable, in fact the acid inside of the battery’s can actually be dissolved with a simple mixture of baking soda and it turns 100% back into water. In fact this water is returned to our sewage systems or reintroduced right back into another battery. the plastics are melted into little balls and are used to form new battery casings. plus statistically they are the 2nd most recycled item on the planet!! so Boo Ya Mr electricbikee guy who gave us this link.
